Henan has 35,000 reported cases of HIV/AIDS
www.chinanews.cn 2007-03-15 14:34:21
Chinanews, Zhengzhou, Mar. 15 C By the end of 2006, the Henan Provincial
Health Bureau had received reports of 35,232 cases of HIV virus carriers,
with 21,828 people being active patients.
Over the past few years, Henan local government monitored some 1.5
million HIV/AIDS carriers in the province every year. These people
include high-risk group, focal group, and ordinary group. In Henan, the
investigation rate for HIV/AIDS disease has reached 94.1%, far above the
national average level.
Previous records showed that most HIV virus carriers in Henan were
infected with the disease through blood donation. In the mid 1990s, some
work units and companies that made blood products acted against national
laws by setting up some blood collecting stations in poor rural areas in
Henan. Many blood donors got infected through their improper collecting
methods, most of them living in rural areas.
